Tell us a bit about who you are and what you do.
Hi! I’m Joy, a 29-year-old from a small town in Maryland. I moved from Manhattan to Jersey City about two years ago. I actually used to be an occupational therapist, but I had a bit of a career crisis and quit around that time. Now, I've completely pivoted and work as a manager/buyer for a local boutique, Sirena, in Jersey City.
How did you get started with content creation?
I started creating content after I quit being an occupational therapist and was looking for a fun new hobby. I’ve always been a creative person, and I love using social media as a creative outlet. It’s helped me rediscover some of my passions, especially fashion, and has given me a new way to express myself.

How would you describe your personal style today, and what was the journey like to develop it?
I always have a difficult time describing my personal style because it varies so much. I could be in a skirt one day, then jorts and a baggy tee the next! I find that my style really depends on what makes me feel confident, my mood, and the weather. I also love following trends, but only incorporate the ones that truly resonate with me. However, my biggest style inspirations actually come from within my own family. My mom is the most chic woman I know, and I get my obsession with denim from her. My sister has taught me the value of quality pieces, and my brother has shown me that style is individualized and a fun creative outlet. I try to incorporate elements from each of them when I get dressed every day.
Now that spring is on the horizon, describe your perfect spring day! What would you do, where would you eat, and what are you wearing?
We’ve had the worst winter this year, so I’ve been daydreaming about my perfect spring day a lot recently! My perfect spring outfit is a simple T-shirt, a great pair of baggy jeans, my favorite cowboy boots, and a fun purse. I’d start my day with a cappuccino and banana bread at Dames, a local coffee shop, then head to Brooklyn to go thrifting. Finally, I’d come back to Manhattan to meet my fiancé at Barbounia for happy hour outside.

What is your go-to outfit formula when you feel like you have nothing to wear?
My go-to outfits always involve baggy clothes because I value comfort above anything else. Currently, my go-to outfit formula is a crisp white T-shirt, a knit sweater, barrel jeans, a long coat, and a pair of pointed toe booties.
Tell us 3 trends you can’t wait to try this spring.
This spring, I’m excited to incorporate more color into my wardrobe! I’ve always been a neutral girly, but I’ve been seeing a lot of shades of green and baby blue lately, so I want to add both into my everyday outfits—whether that’s through a bag, jewelry, or shoes. I’ve also been seeing a lot of fringe, and I love incorporating fun textures into my outfits. Finally, I’m excited to try new accessories like bandanas, scarves, and oversized sunglasses.
Are there other ways you love to express yourself artistically outside of social media?
I love to sketch and draw, but recently I’ve been really into junk journaling! I think it’s such a fun way to keep a diary of memories.

How are you styling your JBD jeans this season?
I’m a denim lover through and through, so I’ll be living in my JBD jeans all winter, spring, and summer (as long as NYC heat allows). Dressed up or dressed down, from a grocery run to a night out with the girls — they just work. I always say a good outfit starts with strong basics, and a good pair of jeans is everything. If I’m in JBD jeans, I know the outfit’s already good!
